Saturday Links : Queen Elsa is Pretty Damn Cool

Disney Princesses vs. Queen Elsa (Frozen)

This funny meme from 9gag I found a month ago was too funny to pass up since Queen Elsa of Frozen was too cool to be mainstream. “You can’t just marry a man you just met.” Queen Elsa said that during the ball to her sister was one of the bombs she let loose during that time. The other of course is the fact that she has magical superpowers thus turning the whole kingdom into a freezer. But enough about that. The thing that made this heaps funny is the way the editor placed all the other Disney Princesses who married the man they just met for the first time.

Hilarious! Although they should have added Princess Eleanor from The Sleeping Beauty.

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey at the Golden Globes 2014

I cannot stress enough how much I love both Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.ย  Amy Poehler’s YouTube channel “Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls” and her segment, “Ask Amy” had me addicted to YouTube and finding women out there who are empowering young girls. While Tina Fey’s Mean Girls had always been part of my movies growing up. And way back college my friends and I are having conversations over twitter that have always referred to either Mean Girls or White Chicks.

No wonder that the Golden Globes this year has so many highlights! That even Buzzfeed made a list of “golden” moments (pun intended) from backstage, on the red carpet as well as the show itself.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Photobombing Taylor Swift

Jennifer Lawrence is a total troll, and a goddess of photobombing fellow celebrities. So its no wonder that she will photobomb, or videobomb rather, Taylor Swift as she is being interviewedย  by Ryan Seacrest. Jennifer Lawrence, who is of course nominated for yet another Golden Globe (update: she won! DUH), admitted that she was thinking of throwing Tay down the steps. If she falls, everyone falls!

Robert Downey Jr. Singing with Sting

Two separate conversations I had with my friends over Facebook who tagged me in this video:

Conversation #1

Mik: Why does he sound like Chris Cornell? O_o

Me: I personally like the Ally McBeal version :)))) LOL. I don’t know why he sounds like Chris Cornell, but at least he can sing.. UGH too talented. :’)

Conversation #2

Krisha: Cara look!

Me: You are the second person to give this to me today. Hahahaha. IKR. UGH So talented. My friend told me Robert sounds like Chris Cornell :)))

Krisha: its everywhere damn he is incredible.

Cara: I know righttttt :”> Love him

*More fan-girling followed after*

I mean seriously though, I’m bummed that Robert Downey Jr is not making another album. He has a voice, he should share it with the world now that he’s the most bankable movie actor in this generation.

The Railway Man

Set during the second world war, the Railway Man is an autobiography by Eric Lomax and his experiences as a prisoner of war during World War II and being forced to help build the Burma Railway for the Japanese military. Lomax was captured when the Japanese conquered Singapore. At first, the Japanese are unable to efficiently control the large number of Allied prisoners they captured when Singapore fell, but as the prisoners are dispersed into smaller camps, Lomax is horribly tortured and forced to cooperate. He is psychologically damaged by his treatment, and after the war suffers from severe psychological problems, which he is only partially successful at hiding. He eventually seeks treatment. He goes back to Thailand to visit the camps where he was a prisoner, and then travels to Japan to find a Japanese officer who was especially cruel to him. After discovering that the former officer has spent his life trying to make amends for his actions during the war, Lomax is able, if not to forgive him, to let go of his anger and hatred.

Subsequently, there is a movie that is coming out on theatres this year about the Railway Man starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. You guys might want to check it out.
